Here are some of the top mobile app design trends:
Designing for bigger screens
The new generation of smartphones and tablets are now oversized and have much bigger screens than before. This way consumers can use more visual content on their mobile devices. Designing for bigger screens makes your app easily accessible and versatile for everyone. Images are also of higher quality and there is more room for navigation, therefore better usability.
Designing for bigger screens does have its own challenges though. For example, less than a fourth of the now larger screen area is in a comfortable reach for the user’s thumb. This is important to consider when designing for mobile apps as it could lead users to neglect or delete your app.
Simple user interface
User interfaces are no longer complicated or filled with chunky shapes. Mobile app user interfaces are now more simplified and clear for better functionality and a more user-friendly approach. Most interfaces make use of flat designs to suit digital screens and provide a seamless and easy navigation.
Swiping
Another trend to watch out for is improvements to the already existing swipe feature. A lot of apps are replacing the use of buttons and encouraging the use of swiping, often making this feature a dominant gesture. Swiping makes app interfaces a lot cleaner and easier to navigate.
Navigation options
Clear, simple navigation is the key to a successful app design. Recently more navigational options have become available such as vertical, modular, horizontal, hidden and parallax scrolling. What is trending now though is bottom navigation. Users prefer to use one thumb to perform most of their actions, making the bottom of the screen a more appropriate location to place navigational buttons.
Interactive animations
Interactive animations create dynamic and function. These eye-catching elements are used to draw attention and improve the user experience. The animations deliver a more personable experience for the users and allows you to build a stronger connection with your audience. A few examples of interactive animations include confirming a user’s action, highlighting the navigation and zooming in and out of content.
