Foodie Friday: La Mouette

Housed in an original Tudor home in picturesque Sea Point, La Mouette Restaurant might make your jaw drop to the floor. The vintage property’s restaurant is set out over two floors with four dining rooms, with each room uniquely decorated with edgy colour schemes. Six fireplaces grace these rooms, assuring a cosy atmosphere. There is a gorgeous bar, an inviting lounging area, and it is all completed with a quaint cobblestone courtyard from which to gaze at the stars on those warmer Cape Town evenings.

Guests get to choose between their seasonal three-course and six-course menus, all of which showcase impeccably crafted dishes, proudly sourced from the best local producers in and around Cape Town. To our delight, each meal listed on their menu has an apt wine suggestion, hand-picked by their in-house wine consultant (yes, they have an in-house wine consultant) to ensure you’ll never go thirsty.

Picture this: a tender beef skirt steak cooked to perfection, accompanied with a fragrant sweet potato puree and a pulled brisket taco, complimented with a 2009 bottle of Morgenster ‘LRV’ Bordeaux blend.

A delightful image, is it not?  Wrap that up with their famous Cape Malay dessert topped with mango sorbet and puffed black rice, and you absolutely can’t go wrong.
