Foodie Friday: The House of Machines

They call themselves ‘THoM’, short for The House of Machines, “the quintessential fine purveyor for the modern man”.

Twenty steps down the road from the PURE office, ‘The House’ inhabits a historic workhouse in Shortmarket Street.

THoM is our daily – sometimes hourly – caffeine station. Every morning you’ll find a minimum of three cups of coffee on our desks. Our reason for going back again and again? Brilliant coffee, friendly faces who remember your order, a great vibe thanks to the forever trendy playlist and mouthwatering pastries, hotdogs and sandwiches.

Essentially, THoM does much more than just coffee and food. The collaborative space was initially born when fashion designer Paul van der Spuy and custom bike builder/entrepreneur Drew Madacsi, came together. The brand has stolen countless hearts of coffee lovers in and around Cape Town’s CBD ever since.

Open from 7am on weekdays, THoM offers only the best. Pop in after work and listen to live music from The House’s renowned Songwriter’s Showcase and monthly artist residencies. Killer cocktails are up for order as well as the finest beers in Cape Town. Sneaky Sausage, Alliance Brand’s (holding group) latest venture, supplies world-class hotdogs to keep those stomachs lined.

Overall, we rate our neighbours ten out of five. Get yourself down to The House and see what we’re on about. This family’s door is always open.
